SAVING MY PINK BATHROOM

I've been so busy with our move. My mother in law moved out this last weekend and now we're finally able to take our things out of storage. I'm a little curious why I even kept most of the things I did, I now realize that I'm in a completely different frame of mind now than I was when I was packing up the old house. This house was built in the 70's, not my favorite decade of house building but a heck of a lot better that the decades that followed (in terms of personality and being unique). I would love to have a cute craftman style house or cottage but this is what we have and there is a quaintness about it that I really love.

One of my favorite rooms in the house is our tiny master bathroom.

It has a pink bathtub and toilet, I'm assuming that there was once a pink sink too. This room needs a lot of work. The first thing I need to do is to some how take out some tiles that don't match the pink at all, replacing them with black tile. I'm also considering taking out the new glass doors and finding a cute shower curtain. I saw an adorable pink poodle shower curtain on another blog and I'm now scouring the internet for another but no luck so far.
I'm decorating the bathroom with the cute chalkware fish from my previous blog, this pink tissue box and some other pink items along with black accents. Like this sweet black and pink dish. I'm
I'm Looking for a pink sink or vanity and some sort of mirror to replace the brown partical board vanity and medicine cabinet.

I'm beyond tired and feel totally lost about what I'm going to do with the rest of the house. My kitchen is coming along. I love collecting kitchy items so that has just fallen right into place. I think I should have some friends over for a decorating idea party.

I think I'll take some "before" pictures of my livingroom that I'll post. Of couse I'm still in the "before" stage so it will be exciting to accomplish the "after".  Time to do a lot more thrifting to fill up these blank walls!

RANDOM GOODIES

Hello!
I've been thrifting quite a lot lately but not taking any pictures. It's been too long since I've blogged because I'm working hard trying to build my cleaning business. So today's post are of items I bought over the last few months.

For the love a birds!

I found these adorable love birds at an antique store. I got them pretty cheap because part of the arrow was broken off the one with the heart. Aren't they so cute though??

I'm really loving birds right now. I'm keeping my eye out for a Lefton Bluebird, they're not cheap!

Can you get any better than a chalkware bluebird?

Well maybe if it's chalkware fish! I love this green and pink one with the umbrella!
Speaking of umbrellas:
I know it's hard to see, but this is a tiny silver umbrella I found, it has 7 little rhinestones, one at the top and 6 around the bottom. I think this will be perfect pinned on one of my hats.
I bought this set of 4 mugs just for the pink and orange umbrellas. They look just perfect on the cup holder I found on the same day at a different thrift store. Should I paint the cupholder or keep yellow? I'm not sure.
Last but not least this umbrella hatpin holder (I think). I'm not crazy about the roses but the soft pink is so perfect for my pink bathroom. I hold my eyeshadow brushes in it.
That's all for my older pictures, now I'm going to have to new pictures soon!

Time to do some baking...

This post really has nothing to do with actual baking, more like wishing I could bake. I do make homemade cookies quite often but when it comes to breads or cake, I just go to the store. However, I'm going to have to start baking now because I found the most absolute darling Sunbeam Mixmaster at a thrift store.

I've been coveting my friends RED Kitchen Aid mixer for some time now, but I wanted it in turquoise. So of course I went on Ebay and couldn't believe that I would have to pay over $200. for one. I don't bake that much. So I gave up my dream. Now I was raised by a very thrifty mother, and she always says "think about what you want and you will eventually find it at a yardsale or thrift store".  Well she's right!

This cost me $8.99 at a thrift store that I don't go to very often, now I have to put them on my thrifting route.

I know it's not turquoise but this mint green is just so lovely. The only sad thing is that the bowl and some of the attachments were missing. Another score I bought this week was a large yellow Pyrex bowl. I looooove Pyrex, I've been collecting Pyrex for about 5 years. I was just staying with the turquois and red but I've decided to branch out and collect every color I find. This bowl cost me $5.00, it's worth anywhere from $18. -$25 depending on the antique store, and I think it looks beautiful paired with the mixer.

The best part is that the mixer works perfectly. Now I'm on the search for the attachments....and some recipes.
Have a beautiful week and....

Happy Thrifting!!!

Plaid Love...

A day in the life of plaid...

I've always had a love for plaid. Not much of a plaid shirt wearer, more like a plaid suitcase collector. I do however have a red and white vintage plaid western shirt that I absolutely love. I don't go out searching for plaid items, I just all of sudden take a look around my home and notice that I really own a lot of things plaid.

Red and Yellow picnic basket marked $35., on sale for $12.
at a local antique shop.

About a month ago I went out thrifting and scouting antique shop sales and every single item I bought just happened to be plaid.
This reversable cape originally $28. marked down to $8.
at the same antique store.

Next I went to a local thrift store and found this blue purse for $1.00 which is all I carry around now. I also got this big blue and white bag for .25 I carry it around to go thrifting so I don't have a lot of different grocery bags in my car. It holds sooo much and is amazingly strong. Now I know the hat isn't vintage and I didn't get the same day I got of these, but I love it and thought it deserved to spot in here....I wear it almost everyday now that I'm growing out my hair. Oh and I bought my daughter matching earmuffs they're sooo cute!

I once had a great collection of plaid thermos' but someone (me) washed them (dishwasher) and all of the paint peeled off. That someone should have known better.

Now I'm on the search for plaid skirts, shoes, tights, socks, dresses and tops with puffy shoulders and ruffles... I've completely found a new love of plaid!

So this next week I'm emptying out our storage unit and helping my mother in law pack her things to take to her new house. We have about 2 more weeks and I can really start fixing up my new home. I can't wait to set up my daughters room. She's been using our sunroom as her bedroom and it's just too small. I got her a 1940's bedroom set which included  a double bed, a vanity with a round mirror and a matching dresser. Once  her room is set up I'll take pictures.

Happy Thrifting!!

A bit about me

Short story long....

So I've lived in Prescott since I was 8. I used to have a love/hate relationship with this town. There was never enough to do when I was younger, there's too many old people, you can walk arcoss town in a matter of 5 minutes...so on and so on.  I always told myself that I would get back to California one day and never live in Prescott again. I became a mom at a young age and it just wasn't that easy to move somewhere new and still be able to support the two of us. I did move to Santa Barbara for 4 months when I was 24 thinking that I could just get a job and a small apartment, enroll my son in school and everything would be just great....didn't exactly happen that way. It costs just wayyyy to money to live in a coastal town. (So unfair) Well I came back to Prescott, years past, had a daughter, got married and bought a house. Only at the time the house prices were sky high and we ended up buying a house in Prescott Valley (an even smaller town). I really did love it though because our house was sort of cottage looking with a cute little front porch and a huge Weeping Willow in the front yard. What I didn't like was living 25-45 min drive (depending on the time of day) to Prescott every day. I owned a clothing store (sold it 3 years ago) and an antique store in downtown Prescott so I was driving a lot. Growing up, My mom and I lived in her victorian house just 1 block from down town. I'm used to getting almost everwhere on foot.

Well of corse the economy crashed, house prices died and we were stuck in a house that was worth half of what we owed on it. Oh and did I mention that I had to close my antique store due to the bad economy? Bummer. Anyway, my mother in law has owned a cute little house here in Prescott since the early '90's. She was trying to sell it in order not to go into forclosure (tough times) but it never sold. So the day before she was going to stop making her house payments, I asked her if my husband (her son) and I could take over her house, we would go into forclosure on our house instead of hers. It would save her credit and we would be in a house back in Prescott. So short story long, We left our house about 5 months ago and have been living with my mother in law. Um yeah.  Well she ended buying a little house in Prescott Valley and she'll be moving in to it in about 2 weeks. My husband is remodeling it for her first but he's almot done.

I have come to really love Prescott. I love that it's small and I love that you can walk almost anywhere. The last few years Prescott has made some major shifts. There is more to do now, sometimes you really have to look for it but it's there. There seems to be a new scene here that I don't remember being here 10 years ago. There's a lot of artists and crafters, knitters, funky clothes makers ect. Since I've lived here, Prescott seems to have always been ahead of the rest of the country when it comes to all natural products and organic foods, shopping local, protecting the earth ect. When I moved here at 8 there was a natural food store called Allens Nu Way, it eventually became Prescott Natural Foods and sadly closed about 3 years ago. There's also great hiking and biking trails here, lakes to picnic at or rent a canoe, skate park for the kids, alternative schools, a great assortment of local coffee shops and so much more. I think I also like Prescott more now because I'm just not a kid anymore. I'm officially in my late 30's and I can't tell you how happy I am to be out of my 20's!!!

So, I no longer want out. I want to stay right here, in our cute little house, with my wonderful husband, my sweet kids and our crazy dog Lucy aka Lucyfer.

So for the next few weeks I'll have some pictures of small areas of our new home, but since we're just starting to move our things in, there will be very few. Well that was a little bit of what I'm up to up to. If you stop by please say hi. I know I'm new but I've got some great finds to show you! Thanks for stopping by.

Flower Power

 The snow is melting..

and yesterday was the first day I could really drive the car. I was so excited to go thrifting that I bundled up and shot out the door blowing a kiss to hubby...peeled away in my car..er actually I drove very slowly due to the ice..I felt like peeling away though. My heart was pounding, my hands were sweating...I'm finally going to get my fix! It's been what 4...5 days? I don't know I lost count. So about a 1/4 mile past my house was a car right in the middle of the road. Apperently the driver lost control on the ice and hit the pile of snow on the side of road. I got out to see if I could help, and saw his wife coming down their steep driveway....this is going to go bad. Sure enough just as I was heading back to my car to get my snow shovel (my car gets stuck a lot, I just carry one with me now) I hear the lady (by lady I mean about 70 years old) scream, I turn just as she lands and starts sliding down the driveway! Her husband ran to her, I walked her-I was wearing Vans, the old guy would've had to girls to pick up if I would've ran. Anyway, we helped her up and she told me that she just got out of her cast from breaking her foot during the last snow storm...falling on the driveway! When I'm old and if I buy another house, I am not getting one with a steep driveway. Where was I? oh, so the couple got their car out, the bruised, limping wife makes it back up the driveway (refusing help from me or her husband) And I'm off again, on my way to my fave thrift store...I arrive only to notice the gate is closed! Ok, now if I can get MY car out of the snow, surely someong could've showed up to open.............ohhhhh today's Sunday. My favorite store isn't open on Sunday's!!! I almost cried...really I almost did.

So I decided go to another one that I thought might be open and they were. But here's the deal: my fave thrift store has amaaaazing prices..like 1.00 a dress .25 for all other clothing and 3.00-5.00 for coats. Most houseware items are about .25. So I only had $9.00 on me which is like $50.00 in my fave thrift store and this other store that was open on Sundays is known for having the highest prices. I found a wonderful Pyrex bowl but it was 5.99 and had rust stains so I didn't get that. I saw amazing dresses and coats that I lusted after but couldn't buy. So I left with some cute (not vintage) spice container in chartreuse, pink, orange and teal...and they're magnetic. And a cute hillbilly mug that had this hillbilly dude laying down by a shed while his wife is out plowing the field with a mule that says "Ma come git your coffee" its so cute. I'll take pictures later because I can't find my camera card right now.

Now, why did I title this "flower power" here's why:

I found this wonderful Samsonit suitcase at my fave thrift store about a month or so ago. I've never seen a cuter suitcase in my life and it is by for one of my favorite scores ever. Besides the 4 piece pink pyrex bowls I got for $10 a while ago. I regret letting those go when I closed my antique store. *sniff* ...well the best part besides the wonderful mod floral design in that it cost me .50 cents. I am so using this on my next vacation.

Snowed in...decided to start my new blog...deleted the old

Wonderful snow...

So I've been snowed in for 4 days, I think I'm having thrifting withdrawls...sweating, shaking, trying to figure out "how can I get to the thrift stores? Just one more thing, thats all I need then I'll stop." "I'll walk...no I'll call a cab, no... they can't drive in this snow either."... I know I'm missing out on something. Like the day I hit this real boring looking yardsale only to see a wonderful PILE, yes pile...like 15-20 vintage table cloths. I had that out of body experience where my walk seems to be in slow motion and it seems to take like 5 min to walk 2ft. Anyway I muster up a way to find my voice to ask how much they are..."oh sorry hon, that lady over there just got 'em" and as I look down at them I see the tag that says 50 cents each!!! (insert tantrum here) Oh thanks, I casually say...I actually thought about throwing my $20 bill at her...grabing the tablecloths and running. Anyway, we thrift lovers all know the pain of missing out on something, being just 1 minute too late. And I'm sure we  have all been the lucky ones too, finding that amazing score and noticing that some woman is following you....just waiting for you to put it down. I've been the follower, I know the pain and I might even feel for the girl...really, I might.

So here are a few of my latest finds...

These wonderful pieces, so colorful! 2 red and 1 yellow scoop, these are going to look great in my rice and quinoa jars! Long orange spoon, 2 small red ladles (not sure what to do with these, but they'll look cute hanging in the kitchen) and these multi-color measuring cups (1/8, 1/4, 1/3 and 1/2 cup). I don't actually use plastic but they're perfect decorations for my kitchen and my daughter will love playing with them.
Some of them had price tags on them from an antique store, (I'm assuming someone closed their booth in on of our local antique stores) the prices on the tags ranged from $4.50 -$6.50. I got everything here for .50 cents.

And this beauty...

Yellow Mod bubble umberella! Clear Yellow with yellow lucite handle. We've already used it in the latest wind storm and when everyone's umbrellas collapsed inside out, ours totally held up. This cost .75 cents at one of our local thrift stores.
